1. Before we met

We are so excited.  We just want to love you so much that it keeps you warm when you are cold.  We want to love you so much that it fills your pores and keeps the heat inside.

We want the memory of our love to power you and make you sure of yourself.

When people ask who you are we want you to say it with confidence and pride.  Looking into another person's eyes, unafraid.   Centered and ready.  Who are you, they'll ask...

I'm Soleia Kwynn Devonish.

You are Soleia Kwynn Devonish.  The sun shines for you.  Never forget this, my darling.  My love.  Never forget that you have in you a strength that others hope for, dream of, envy and often lack.  Because you are so strong, you can always afford to be kind, even when other people don't deserve kindness.  Even when they don't deserve it, you'll still have it to give.

Share that strength with your world.  Shine your light and show others the way.

I hope that I am a worthy teacher to you.  I hope you enjoy these stories of times before you could remember.

I love you, sunshine.  You are as you will always be - my hero.

Your father,
Kamil

3. Fluctuations

Soleia 0.8 Einstein wrote that what can be seen by the light of knowledge is inconsequential to the magnitude of the ignorance represented by the surrounding darkness.  I feel that when I look at you, when I talk to your mother.  When she talks about sore nipples, or tenderness where you exited her body, I shake my head at how I could have gone so long without knowing any of these details.  When I look at your face as you sleep and see expressions fluctuate between deeply pained expressions to serene, carefree smiles in the span of a few seconds, I wonder how come I've never read of such things, of the magical experience of observing the newly born. What could be happening behind those eyelids, I wonder?  You were like a seed growing in the fertile soil of your mother's body and now you are a seed again.  But this time the seed is your mind: we fertilize it with kisses and touch and words, and in another way with breastmilk and formula and sunlight and vitami...

10. You, before you knew

Soleia 0.113 It is important that you don't think I write this just to sound clever or caring.  This isn't the show...the spectacle of loving you.  I really more than anything want to give you an accounting of who you were before you could remember who you were - Soleia, before Soleia knew what a 'Soleia' was. So much of what we are and what we think we are, is what is told to us about ourselves by others.  It creates this outline that we fill in with our actions and behaviours, our reactions, our fears, our hopes and our dreams.  But the outline is sometimes so restrictive that it keeps us from filling out things that others simply don't see. There is this tension between freedom and structure that exists in the universe.  When I tell you something about yourself am I imposing my understanding upon you, limiting your freedom to be what you choose?  Or am I simply informing you of something that is actually there, giving you a structure and framework ...

8. Special relativity

Soleia 0.76 "By a process of contradiction, distance in space makes things look small, and therefore free from defect. This is why a landscape looks so much better in a contracting mirror or in a camera obscura, than it is in reality. The same effect is produced by distance in time. The scenes and events of long ago, and the persons who took part in them, wear a charming aspect to the eye of memory, which sees only the outlines and takes no note of disagreeable details. The present enjoys no such advantage, and so it always seems defective. And again, as regards space, small objects close to us look big, and if they are very close, we may be able to see nothing else, but when we go a little way off, they become minute and invisible. It is the same again as regards time. The little incidents and accidents of every day fill us with emotion, anxiety, annoyance, passion, as long as they are close to us, when they appear so big, so important, so serious; but as soon as they are bo...
